Deep Shadow Work · Manhattan, NYC
The part of you that is exhausting you is not the part you can see.
For high-achieving professionals in New York and California who have done the surface work — and know there is something deeper that has not been touched.

THE EXPERIENCE
This Is What It Feels Like.
You know yourself well.
Better than most people know themselves. You have done the therapy, read the books, understood the patterns. You can trace the origin of your behavior with clinical precision. You know where the perfectionism comes from. You know why you cannot stop.
And yet.
The knowing has not changed anything. The pattern continues. The exhaustion continues. The sense that you are performing a version of yourself rather than actually being one continues.
This is the specific paradox of the high-achieving mind in psychological work: the same intelligence that makes you extraordinarily effective professionally makes you extraordinarily good at understanding your dysfunction without changing it.
Insight is not the destination. It is the beginning.

"The False Self is not a flaw. It was a brilliant survival strategy. It has simply outlived its usefulness — and it is consuming everything."
WHAT'S ACTUALLY HAPPENING
What Shadow Work Actually Is
The concept of the shadow comes from analytical psychology — the parts of the self that were deemed unacceptable, dangerous, or incompatible with survival, and were therefore pushed out of conscious awareness.
This is not mysticism. It is a precise description of a biological and psychological process.
The high-achieving professional's shadow is almost always the same: the vulnerability that was never safe to show, the rage that was never acceptable to feel, the grief that was never given space, the need that was never allowed to exist. These are not weaknesses. They are the most alive parts of a person — locked away because the environment once made their expression genuinely dangerous.
The energy required to keep them locked away is enormous.
It shows up as the chronic exhaustion that has no clear cause. The emotional blunting. The sense of performing rather than living. The physical bracing. The relentless drive that feels less like ambition and more like something chasing you.
Standard therapy works at the level of the known self. Shadow work works at the level of what the known self was built to protect against.

WHO THIS IS FOR
The Right Patient
This work is specifically designed for high-achieving professionals who have already done significant psychological work — and know that something deeper has not been reached.
You are in the right place if:
→
You understand your patterns intellectually but cannot change them experientially
→
You feel like you are performing a version of yourself rather than actually being one
→
You experience a persistent sense of emptiness or inauthenticity beneath the performance
→
Your drive feels less like ambition and more like something you cannot stop
→
You have significant insight into your psychology but it has not produced significant change
→
You are ready to examine the parts of yourself you have worked hardest to keep hidden
This is not for you if:
→
You are looking for a surface-level introduction to shadow concepts
→
You want insight without genuine willingness to encounter what the insight points toward
→
You are in acute psychiatric crisis requiring immediate stabilization
→
You are not prepared for work that requires full participation and genuine honesty
THE APPROACH
How We Address It.
Shadow work in this practice is not a modality offered alongside standard psychiatric care.
It is embedded within a comprehensive biological and psychological framework — because shadow work without biological stabilization first is like trying to renovate a building while the foundation is still shifting.
PHASE 01
HARDWARE
Before we go deep, we stabilize the biological system.
The reason shadow work is often destabilizing when done in isolation is that it requires the nervous system to tolerate the very material it has spent years organizing itself around avoiding. If the autonomic nervous system is already in chronic threat-response, this tolerance is not available.
Metabolic and somatic stabilization first creates the biological safety that makes genuine shadow work possible — not as a spiritual exercise, but as a neurologically informed clinical process.
PHASE 02
SOFTWARE
With the biological foundation in place, we go into the territory that standard therapy rarely reaches.
Using deep analytical frameworks, attachment theory, and Direct Inquiry — a somatic-philosophical method drawn from six years of formal Zen practice — we work at the level of the False Self directly. Not to destroy it. To understand what it was protecting, to integrate what was locked away, and to redirect the massive metabolic energy that protection has been consuming.
The goal is not a better version of the performed self. It is contact with the actual one.
"The goal is not insight into the shadow. It is contact with what the shadow was built to protect. Those are very different destinations."
Metin Cayiroglu, MD
WHAT MAKES THIS DIFFERENT
Not Standard Shadow Work.
Shadow work as offered in the broader wellness and therapy space is frequently under-resourced — conducted without psychiatric oversight, without biological stabilization, without the clinical training to manage what emerges.
This practice offers something structurally different:
Shadow work embedded within full psychiatric care — biologically informed and clinically supervised
Metabolic and somatic stabilization before deep psychological work begins
Direct Inquiry — a somatic-philosophical method developed through six years of formal Zen and philosophical practice
A physician trained across forensic, inpatient, child, and psychosomatic psychiatry — who understands the full spectrum of what can emerge
Strictly private pay — accountable to you, not an insurance panel

Begin
If you have spent years understanding yourself without changing —
The first step is a two-hour conversation. Not a diagnosis. A real assessment of what is actually happening beneath the surface.
